violife vegan cheese vs real milk cheese

Can Violife Vegan Cheese Really Compete With Real Milk Cheese?

[AD – Gifted] This post contains gifted item(s).

If you’ve been around here for quite a while, you’ll know that I’m a huge foodie, but recently I’ve also started looking at ways to eat more consciously. So when Violife got in touch to send me a bundle of dairy free, cheesy goodies, I instantly accepted. Not only is cheese a pretty versatile ingredient for a variety of meals, but the dairy free element of this particular brand intrigued me – I mean, can vegan cheese really taste like cheese if it’s dairy free? Let’s find out shall we!

Original Flavour Grated

First up is the Original Flavour Grated Cheese which tastes just like your bog standard – but the difference is that this one is free from dairy, gluten, soya, lactose, nuts and preservatives, all thanks to the coconut oil from which it is produced from! It’s pretty grate (see what I did there?!) to sprinkle on your jacket potato or pasta and honestly, you wouldn’t even guess the difference.

Epic Mature Cheddar Flavour Block

Next up is the Epic Mature Cheddar Flavour Block! Now this one has quite a sharp taste (which is probably expected as it’s supposed to imitate mature cheddar, so Violife have definitely ticked the box there) but once you actually have a bite or two, you simply can’t stop – it deliciously crumbles into your mouth and what you get is a fusion of intricate flavours thanks to the coconut oil, sunflower kernel and olive extract. Again, this is also free from dairy, gluten, soya, lactose, nuts and preservatives. I’ve been using this regularly in my grilled cheese sandwiches because it just melts so wonderfully and leaves a nutty aftertaste, yum!

Smoky Cheddar Flavour Slices

I’ll be honest, I’ve never been one for smoked flavours because it just doesn’t do anything for my taste buds. So, when I saw the Smoky Cheddar Flavour Slices, I left it until the end. However, when it did come around to trialling it, I was pleasantly surprised! When paired with my trusted garlic mayo sauce, it adds an additional depth to the already present flavours, and for true fans for all things smoked, this one’s a great vegan alternative!

Original Flavour Slices

Let’s get onto the classic, shall we? You simply can’t go wrong with cheese slices; melt them onto some toast, add them into a sandwich or if you’re feeling a little extra, whip up this scrumptious Mac and Cheese – the possibility for vegan recipes are endless! This vegan alternative tastes pretty much the same apart from the strong aftertaste (but this only adds to the intensity of the flavours!) and you wouldn’t even know you were using dairy free cheese – would recommend 10/10!

Violife Le Rond Camembert Flavour

Love an evening of moreish snacks and cheese? Then this one’s for you! The Violife Le Rond with Camembert Flavour is the perfect vegan accompaniment for a finger food platter, and once baked (either in the oven or microwave) you’re left with a soft, creamy mixture, perfect to dip into with garlic bread, nachos or veggie sticks! I really couldn’t believe this was dairy free, because it tasted so milky and moist, exactly like it would if it were to be made from cow’s milk – so be sure to get your hands on this if you can!

After taste testing these selection of vegan cheeses, I think I’ll be swapping over to Violife for good – not only is it great for the planet but it tastes brilliant too! Are you a cheese lover? What are your favourite cheeses?

Until next time.
